Special TRAINING Call – November 28th, 2012

“From Trusted Advisor to Thriving Rainmaker: 21st Century Strategies for Consultants, CPAs and Financial Planners”

Join me on Wednesday, November 28th at Noon ET (9am PT) when I’ll be revealing my strategies to help PROFESSIONAL SERVICES FIRMS build relationships that convert to revenues…

Are you getting clients online?

  • Only 15% of professional service firms generate at least 40% of their leads online, according to a study by the Hinge Research Institute.
  • However, those who do enjoy growth rates of almost 30 percentage points higher than their less active peers!

The data shows there’s tremendous untapped revenue potential for consultants, accountants and other service professionals willing to step out of their comfort zones and promote themselves online.

The small percentage of firms bold enough to embrace modern marketing methods and technologies receive a disproportionately larger share of loyal clients, prestigious assignments, and industry acclaim.

The remaining majority jockey for the leftovers, battle long sales cycles and cave to pricing pressures.

Which group are you in? Which do you want to be in?

If promoting yourself makes you nervous, that’s understandable. The tactics and techniques that work for consumer brands and other business providers may not be right for you. It’s vital that you preserve a professional, trustworthy image for the market you are trying to reach.

But doing nothing new and hoping that enough prospects will magically appear on your doorstep on their own is not the right strategy either. You’ve known this for some time, but have not known what to do about it.

I have the answer and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Join me on this special training call where I’ll be spilling the beans on:

  • The 6 things successful firms do to win more ideal clients and leave their competition in the dust
  • 5 critical gaps to overcome to sell more engagements
  • The #1 resource many professional service providers fail to maximize
  • Why your current clients may be killing your business…and what you MUST do about it NOW
  • My 3-part formula for converting relationships to revenues TODAY

Get ready for some tough talk and some bold solutions to your client acquisition challenges.

The first step: Register for the call. It’s absolutely FREE. Then watch your inbox for the call-in details.

To your networking success!

How a Single Connection Can Start a Cascade of Opportunities

Since I announced Network Appreciation Day last week, I’ve
been thinking about who in my network I would write about today.

Personally, it’s difficult to single out any individual because
I wouldn’t be at this point in my business without the help of so many people.
But I do have a special place in my heart for two new friends I met this year,
but feel I’ve known forever: Carrie and Andy Robinson of CRG Leadership
Institute
.

They first contacted me when Smart Networking was released
to invite me as a guest on their Career Wisdom Radio show, and I had a fabulous
time.

When my husband and I ending up moving to Naples, FL where
they live, Carrie immediately invited us to join her Nordic Pole Walking group
on Wednesday mornings, and suddenly we went from knowing nobody in town to
having 20 new friends sharing a fun activity. In addition to being an executive
recruiter, Carrie recently started College Edge to help high school and college
students get a competitive edge in their budding careers.

Andy, who authors the excellent Career Success Blog, has been a great supporter of Smart
Networking, recommending it to clients in his successful executive coaching
practice. This summer, he introduced me to preeminent consultant Dave Carpenter,
who has me involved in an amazing opportunity that I’ll be announcing in early
2010.

Dave immediately connected me with Bob Burg, who’s classic
Endless Referrals has been a favorite of mine since I started my business. Now
I’ll be interviewing Bob about his newest bestseller The Go-Giver, co-authored
with John David Mann, on my next Smart Networking Inner Circle coaching call. I would
be much more star-struck, but he is such a nice, down-to-earth guy!

Even as I write this, I’m in awe of how one connection can
lead to so many new points of contact and so many opportunities and
friendships.

So take some time today–whether publicly or privately–to
honor the folks in your network. Let them know how much you appreciate them.

Is Your Business Blog More Like a Business BLOB? (LIVE Teleseminar)

Do you have a blog? Or is it

attention as Facebook and Twitter these days, but it can actually give you
the most leverage and
visibility for your investment of time, energy and money. But, you’ve got to be
smart about blogging for your business.

On Thursday, September 17th
at 7pm Eastern
, I’ll be interviewing business blogging expert and founder
of The Blog Squad, Denise Wakeman on:

* * * 5 Critical
Tactics for Business Blog Success * * *

On
this content-rich interview
, Denise will share key strategies that will help
ensure the success of your blog so it becomes a powerful platform to
generate more visibility and more opportunities for your business.

Congratulations to Walter Akana, Week 3 Winner of the Smart Networking Virtual Interview Series

walter_new_shot_for_byw_and_website.jpg

While traveling through Paris and Italy for 3 1/2 weeks was incredibly fun, it created an enormous backlog of work and I am long overdue in congratulating my good friend Walter Akana for his victory in the final week of the virtual interview contest!

I’ll be sending along an autographed copy of Smart Networking, and in lieu of an Amazon gift certificate, at Walter’s request, I’ve made a $25 donation to one of his wife’s favorite charities, Best Friends Animal Society. Congrats to Walter and much appreciation to all the week 3 interviewers and voters!

Read Walter’s winning interview here.

Although Walter and I have yet to meet, we’ve developed a supportive relationship solely through our interactions on Facebook and Twitter. He first got my attention in May when he started leaving smart, thoughtful comments on Facebook about my Passport to Networking videos. Every week when I posted a new episode, he would be there with an insight that would take my networking tip to another level. And I was flattered when he shared my tips from inside the Forbidden City (episode 9) and on top of the Great Wall of China (episode 10) with some of his clients.

When I notified Walter of his win, he wrote: “The real win has so much less to do with me than it does with getting your message out to people who need it. I think all the bloggers did great jobs and I salute them as well!”

Isn’t he a great guy? We should all be so lucky to have someone like him in our networks! Whenever I am asked in an interview for an example of great relationship building skills, 9 times out of 10, I find myself talking about Walter. I even included him in my book just before it went to press, adding a long paragraph in Chapter 7 which was about seizing opportunities to create value and help others succeed.

When he’s not offering his tremendous support of everything I do, Walter is a Life Strategist who works exclusively with mid-career individuals who want to achieve more direction in their careers and lives. The tag line for his firm, Atlanta-based Threshold Consulting, is “It’s your life, own it!”

If this economy is causing you to rethink where you’re headed, I encourage you to learn more about Walter and his services. You can also follow him on Twitter (@walterakana).

I had a tremendous amount of fun hosting this virtual interview contest, and I thank everyone again for participating. I met so many great people whom I hope to interact with much more in 2009!

Congratulations to Miriam Salpeter, Week 2 Winner of the Smart Networking Virtual Interview Series! Week 3 Polls Finally Open!

With my intermittent Internet access in Italy last week and most people taking off for the long Thanksgiving weekend, this post is a week late. Thanks to everyone for their patience.
miriam-for-blog.jpg
Without further ado, it is my pleasure to crown Miriam Salpeter of Keppie Careers the winner of Week 2′s contest, with 83% of the vote. I’ll be sending her an autographed copy of Smart Networking and a $25 gift certificate to Amazon. Thanks to all the week 2 interviewers and voters!
I started following Miriam on Twitter (@keppie_careers) when I learned that Guy Kawasaki had included her blog on his list of top career blogs at Alltop. When I launched the interview contest, I contacted Miriam proactively to introduce myself and ask if she would like to participate. She enthusiastically agreed and launched her new web design with this post. I’m so honored!
When I informed her of her win, she said: “One of the best parts of authoring a career advice blog (in addition to sharing information with job seekers) is the opportunity to ‘meet’ an amazing group of professionals who have such great information and advice to share.”
I couldn’t agree more, and I’m so glad I made contact! Like the other interviewers in the series, Miriam really gets networking and knows that adding value in other people’s lives adds tremendous value to your own.
In addition to her work at Keppie Careers, which is based in Atlanta, Miriam is also the Career Advice Expert at www.GreatPlaceJobs.com whose mission is to help people find satisfying jobs at great companies. She’s also helping to create and grow their social network with plans for their members to include informational seminars and podcasts to share “inside information” with job seekers as well as best practices for job seeking.
If your career is important to you, then Miriam is someone you’re going to want to get to know as well. You can learn more about Miriam and her business here.
And now, on to the voting for the final week!

Congratulations to Michele Woodward, Week 1 Winner of the Smart Networking Virtual Interview Series! Week 2 Polls Now Open

a-michele3.jpg

With 62% of the popular vote, Master Certified Coach and The Countess of Networking Michele Woodward won the very first virtual interview contest in a landslide.
One of the cool side benefits of this contest for me has been meeting new people who “get” networking, and want to help others “get” it too. I could do this contest every week just for that!
So I was thrilled when Michele sent me this email: “I wanted to tell you how much each of the people who voted for me (those I know, anyway) have enjoyed learning about your book. I had one client call yesterday to say that she combined my interview with you, with another blog post I wrote Finding a Job 2.0 and is using that as her template to transition out of her current job.”
Michele’s comment just goes to show that when you help others (as she did for me by helping spread the word about Smart Networking) you end up helping so many other people, as well as yourself.
Though I’ve never met Michele personally, I really enjoyed interacting with her and look forward to getting to know her better. If you haven’t “met” Michele yet, you should. She’s based in the Washington, D.C. area and in addition to being a coach, advice columnist, speaker and teacher, she is author of her own book, Lose Weight, Find Love, De-Clutter & Save Money
In lieu of the gift certificate prize, Michele requested I make a $25 donation to the DC Central Kitchen, which I happily did and hope it can go towards a few more holiday turkeys.
My deepest thanks to Michele, all the other interviewers, and to everyone who voted for making my week! :)
And now, on to week 2…The polls are now open!

Smart Networking Virtual Interview Series: Vote for Your Favorite Week 1 Blog Interview

Last week I announced the launch of an online contest where any blogger could send me 5 questions that I would answer for a virtual interview. The entries would be collected here and readers could vote for their favorite one. This was a brilliant idea pioneered by Rohit Bhargava, who writes the Influential Marketing Blog and is author of the hot new book Personality Not Included.
I had some terrific bloggers participate. Some I knew, and the rest of whom I was happy to connect with for the first time. I’m really thrilled that they wanted to join in! I LOVED the diversity of interviewers and questions, and you’re definitely going to want to read ALL of them to see their different perspectives. All of the interviews were exclusives, with all original answers (no cutting and pasting!).
Vote for your favorite interview below and help one lucky blogger win a $25 gift certificate to Amazon, Starbucks or iTunes (winner’s choice), as well as an autographed copy of Smart Networking. Polls close at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, and the winner will be announced shortly thereafter.
Want to get in on next week’s contest? If you have a blog, email 5 questions to thelizlynch [at] gmail [dot] com by this Thursday, November 13. I’ll be answering interviews in the order that I receive them and will have all answers back by Friday. Read more about the contest here.

Give Buzz, Get Buzz: Announcing the Virtual Interview Series Contest for “Smart Networking”

Want some buzz for your blog? I want to help.
This Friday marks the official release of my book Smart Networking, which has already landed at online bookstores and is now making its way to brick and mortar ones (and to Amazon’s international subsidiaries too!).
Working with bloggers has always been part of my book marketing plan, and I’d like to build on the innovative idea pioneered by Rohit Bhargava, digital strategist at Ogilvy 360, publisher of the Influential Marketing Blog and author of Personality Not Included (also a McGraw-Hill book).
To market PNI, he launched a blog contest where any blogger could email him five questions which he would answer for a virtual interview. He linked to all the posted interviews (55 of them in all!) from his blog and let readers vote for their favorite one. The winner got a gift certificate from Amazon, and all participants got tons of exposure. I thought it was absolutely brilliant.
I was alerted to this by one of my Twitter friends, Linda Sherman who writes an international women’s blog called It’s Different For Girls. Her interview with Rohit made it into the Top 12. I was deep into the writing of my own book at the time, but knew Rohit was a role model I wanted to follow. A couple of weeks ago, I contacted him about doing this and he gave me his blessing and wished me luck.
But here’s my twist…I’ll be holding three mini-contests over the next three weeks, with one winner chosen each week from the previous week’s interviews. Yup, three rounds, with three winners (see dates for each round below).
Here’s how to play: If you have a blog, send me five questions you have about networking or the book. For questions that I receive between Monday and Thursday, I’ll have answers back to you that Friday. Readers will begin voting the following Monday, hopefully giving you enough time to post the interview to your blog, and send me the link so I can post it to mine and include you on the list of eligible blogs for that week.
The writer of the Best Interview of the week, as determined by readers votes, will get a $25 gift certificate to Amazon, Starbucks, or iTunes (winner’s choice) and a signed copy of my book. But the best part is we’ll all be helping cross-promote each other’s blogs.
Like Rohit, I’ll be answering interview questions in the order that I receive them (but unlike Rohit, I’ll probably write a lot slower, so I need that extra day!). Choose the round you’d like to participate in and email questions to thelizlynch [at] gmail [dot] com within the respective timeframe.
While you’re here, if you’d like to stay updated with news, special events, and additional content become a fan on Facebook, or join the Smart Networking e-list. You can also follow us on Twitter: Liz Lynch and/or the Smart Networking book.
